Food Digestion

This photo shows the human digestive system which is divided into three part the mouth, stomach, and small intestine. In human and other mammals, digestion involves both physical and chemical processes. Physical digestion involves breaking up of large molecule of food into smaller molecule. It start from mouth with the slicing and chewing action of the teeth. Physical digestion continues to a smaller extent in the stomach by the churning action brought about by the contraction of muscles in the stomach wall. By breaking up food into smaller pieces, mechanical digestion increase increase the surface area of the food available for chemical digestion. During this process, digestive enzyme break down complex food molecule into smaller molecule which enter the bloodstream to be transported to the whole body. this process normally involved enzymatic hydrolysis.
